Stem Cell Therapy

Dr. Yocum is a pioneer in the field of veterinary stem cell therapy. In 2009, Dr. Yocum was appointed chief equine consultant for Medivet America, an internationally renowned Regenerative Medicine Company, and has since developed expertise in the treatment of horses and small animals with stem cells, platelet rich plasma, and autologous conditioned serum.

“I am delighted to have witnessed extraordinary improvement in my patients with the use of these technologies. The potential of Regenerative Medicine is unlimited and I am convinced that stem cell therapy is the future of medicine”.

Green Tree Animal Hospital offers Stem Cell Therapy and Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy for the use in the treatment of arthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases in dogs, cats, and horses.

“We recently completed a study comparing Stem Cells to Platelet Rich Plasma in the treatment of osteoarthritis and found that both modalities provide significant relief of the pain associated with degenerative joint disease”.

In that study 18 dogs with joint disease were treated with either stem cells or PRP and the clinical response was monitored at 7, 30, 60, and 90 days. Both groups improved significantly, however the stem cell treated group demonstrated the best response.
“I was impressed with both groups and a little bit surprised at how well the PRP group responded. PRP is a good option for many cases of arthritis however stem cells would be the treatment of choice for severe arthritis”.
