A recent post from The American Association of Feline Practitioners discussed possible causes of kidney disease in cats. It is well known that kidney disease is very prevalent in cats and is one of the leading causes of death. This large study reviewed records on several thousand cats looked at risk factors for kidney disease. Not surprisingly dental disease was incriminated as a possible cause for kidney disease. It was hypothesized that the chronic inflammation in the mouth may results in decreased blood supply to the kidney which in turn would predispose the cat to kidney disease.
